The Italian Simone Moro is one of the most famous alpinists in the world. Since 1992 he has taken part in over 40 mountaineering expeditions including ten winter expeditions on nearly all continents. Ten times he reached the top of a primary or secondary 8000 meters peak, in addition several peaks of 7000 and 6000 meters. Simone Moro is not only a great alpinist but also a great man.
Simone received the prize of the "Fair Play Pierre de Cubertin" awarded by UNESCO, the Gold Medal of Merit by the Italian President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi and the Region of Lombardy, and the David Sowles Memorial Award from the American Alpine Club. On Lhotse he abandoned his ascent at 8000 meters to search for the missing British mountaineer Tom Moore. He found him and rescued him. For this unbelievable act of heroism Simone received the Sowles Award in Salt Lake City (USA). In 2009 Simone won the third award of the alpine price "Marco e Sergio Dalla Longa" for the first ascent of the Beka Brakai Chhok South Summit with Harve Bermass and through an online vote, along with Denis Urubko he was awarded with the "Eiger Award" for the first Winter ascent of Makalu.
In 2016 he made the first winter ascent of Nanga Parbat together with Alex Txikon and Ali Sadpara.
